The group was formed in late 2019 and the name ‘Sustainable Living’ was chosen to be deliberately broad to cover a wide range of topics but also to be pertinent to individuals and their lifestyle choices. The idea for the group is to inform and inspire members (and maybe through them, their friends and families) with good quality information. During the colder / darker months we hold indoor meetings (mostly involving an invited speaker) and in the summer we organise site visits, which have proved very popular. We obtained a grant so have been able to buy a collection of books and magazines for members to borrow.
July 2025 Meeting
On a warm and sunny July 3rd 9 members of the Sustainable Living group, and a guest, met at the Osprey lookout on the banks of Llyn Brenig. There was an opportunity for everyone to talk informally to the dedicated and well informed group of volunteers there and view the 2 osprey chicks with their mother on the nest. We then enjoyed Sarah Callon's input concerning the eventual successful breeding of the 2 chicks and the hopes that they will be rung and fledge in the near future.
Subsequently, all of us went to the hide and, in two groups and from much closer quarters, again viewed the chicks and their mother. The father remained absent throughout our visit but he is an attentive father, keeping the nest well supplied with fish for his mate and offspring.
Anyone can go to the lookout independently and arrange a visit to the hide if they'd like to. Just check the Llyn Brenig website for details.
